Yes it’s true. For the longest time I have lived in denile, but I no longer can. Depite the fact that I do not NEED my coffee in the morning in order to function like a normal human being, I long for that smooth delicious drink that seems to bring peace and harmony to my life.
It didn’t help that the church where I work put in a coffee shop in our building that is open during the week, and gives me a 20% discount on every purchase!! Damn them. On top of that their coffee is really good.
At any rate my friend Jonathan Penn commented on an article posted on a daily news site I had never herd of called Slate. Turns out it is a really great place for news and infromation of all kinds. I highly recommend it and will now make it s regular stop on my web surfing adventures.
On Slate I read a really interesting article about the effect Starbucks has on Mom and Pop coffee shops. Turns out something really surprising happens when a Starbucks moves in next store! You can read more by clicking here. I also learned that new coffee shops have only a 10% failure rate. (this is really amazing) In addition it only cost around 14 cents to make a cup of coffee after labor. This is something like a 400% markup!!!! WOW!!! I think I am going to find the nearest Starbucks and open up my own ceffee shop right next door.
